Honor Killing On My Mind

When I interviewed the imam from my neighborhood mosque on Thursday I asked him about the sermon he delivered two weeks ago.  If you recall, it was a sermon partially about gossiping, and the preacher’s point was that gossiping about an honorable woman was a Big Sin because it could ruin her life.  I wondered at the time whether the preacher was trying to give a message against honor killings.  Here’s what he said when I asked him:

“Honor killing was on my mind at the time, but it wasn’t the specific reason why I chose the topic.  Maybe we could say it was there, under the water.”

It sounds like I wasn’t far off.
