Today I checked my email just twice during the work day, once at 11 AM and once at 4 PM. Man, was that ever great! I’m going to see if I can keep it up, because I liked the results. By scheduling “email time” I stayed much more focused during the larger blocks of time in between.
Limiting the number of times you check your email is hardly an original idea, but I decided to do it on a whim after reading a bit about Tim Ferriss and hearing him mention the twice-a-day, 11/4 schedule. I haven’t yet read his book, The 4-Hour Workweek, but it’s been creating tons of buzz. David Seah has a pretty comprehensive review followed by a good discussion in the comments where someone accuses Ferriss of being a snake-oil salesman, and then Ferriss himself weighs in.
Darren at ProBlogger also has a an interview series with Ferriss that peaked my interest. He’s a Princeton grad, cage fighting champion, world record tango dancer, Hong Kong TV actor, CEO, etc. There’s no lack of self-promotion on Ferriss’s blog, but it’s all pretty interesting.
Whatever you think of his advice, I’m sure you’ll be hearing a lot more about this guy in days to come.
